The red, yellow, and blue diamond-like shapes were
originally cut from acetate and photographed against a white wall.
Window light was pouring in from one side of the room, giving an odd
dimensionality to the flat-on-flat surfaces. Individual photographs were
then composited and given an additional background; the neutral
off-white rectangle.
Strangely, only imaginary "Primary Colors" can combine to quantify all
visible colors. Any three colors of light can mix only a limited range
of colors, which always contains fewer hues than the full range of
colors humans can perceive. In order to mix the full spectrum of visible
colors, the true "Primary Colors" are defined as lying outside the range
of visible colors and therefore cannot be seen.
